What is your top priority SHORT TERM challenge created in your community(ies) because of COVID-19 that your Local Recovery Planning process will address? : Consistent marketing and promotion across different physical and virtual platforms. Covid has divided our markets and makes it much harder to reach customers and message. 7.b. What is your second priority SHORT TERM challenge created in your community(ies) because of COVID-19 that your Local Recovery Planning process will address? : Identifying resources and assets to consistent marketing and promotion in a community without a BID (and not chance of getting a BID). 7.c. What is your third priority SHORT TERM challenge created in your community(ies) because of COVID-19 that your Local Recovery Planning process will address?: Building consensus on next steps for our commercial core areas 8.a. What is your top priority MEDIUM or LONG TERM challenge created in your community(ies) because of COVID-19 that your Local Recovery Planning process will address?: Identifying what the opportunities will be for small city economic development after Covid (e.g., will retail recover, will downtowns only survive if they are far more experiential) 8.b. Given your community size, type and array of issues and the level of effort to coordinate with other Municipal partners or non-profits identify which of the following best describes your anticipated planning effort. If not yet formed, describe the plan for the group’s composition and work. : A leadership team drawn from the Mayor's Office, the Office of Planning & Sustainability, the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Northampton Association, and Florence Business and Civic Association. 11. Implementation – Describe the implementation process for the plan(s) completed by this project.: The leadership team will identify joint projects (e.g., building consensus, marketing and promotion) and each member of the team will use the tools at their disposal for their individual actions (e.g., communication with their members, individual investments) 12. Tell us anything else that is important for DHCD to understand about your ideas for recovery planning in your community. : Although all downtowns are suffering with Covid, Northampton is uniquely impacted because 1) our economy more service-oriented than most communities, and that sector has been especially hard hit, 2) our economy is heavily driven by the colleges in the area, and most of those have gone to remote learning only, 3) we have very little guaranteed customer base (e.g., we have no Class A offices) that survive even during Covid. 13.
