Dear Northampton CPA Board Members:
We are writing this letter to support Smith Charities because we strongly feel that they are
deserving of this preservation grant!
We have had mortgages with Smith Charities since 1994, and we are very pleased that the
interest from our payments are being used to give deserving beneficiaries some monetary help in their
pursuits of a career in a local trade or in nursing. It is our understanding that they also give gifts to
brides and yearly gifts to widows with children.
The Smith Charities building is a landmark in Northampton and definitely deserves to be
preserved as they have been giving back to the City of Northampton for over 170 years. We believe that
they have paid out more than 8 million dollars in gifts to beneficiaries of several communities, which
includes thousands of dollars to Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School and beneficiaries who
reside in Northampton and Florence. The Oliver Smith Will and Smith Charities continue to give back
to our Deerfield community, and to yours, and it should not go unnoticed. We fully support them and
hope you will reward their efforts by granting them the funds to assist in preserving their beautiful
building.
