Hello Sarah Lavalley--
I understand you chair the committee that is deciding whether or not to grant CPA
status to St. John Cantius. I am writing in support of this status.
I am a tapestry weaver. My studio (at 19C Hawley Street) is directly across from the
church. For the 35 years that I have owned my studio and worked there, I have
enjoyed my view of the church, enjoyed (in earlier years) watching the congregants
emerging at the end of the service, enjoyed the sight of something that looks like
nothing else in the neighborhood where the church is. I am, as you see, a big fan.
It is my understanding that awarding the funds will secure the exterior of the church,
and thus the church itself, which can then be repurposed for other uses. I really believe
that this is a splendid idea. It reinforces the distinction of the place itself and as well the
neighborhood.
Best wishes,
Micala Sidore
