This letter is intended to support the O’Connell Development Group’s request for $500,000 to save St. John Cantius from
demolition.
Since 1969 until 1990, I was a Northampton resident and participant in the St. John Cantius Church’s masses. I played
the organ at the Saturday masses in the late 1980s and also played Christmas Eve masses several times throughout this
period. I think that the church is an important, beautiful building indicating a strong symbol of the Polish community. The
continued presence of the church building will contribute to the attraction of Northampton as a vital area for existing and
new residents…which spurs investment locally.
It is very important for Northampton to recognize this historical nature of the St John Cantius building and to keep it alive
in the community.
