Letter in Support of SJC.docxJuly 11, 2022 Northampton Community Preservation Committee c/o Sarah LaValley Planning & Sustainability City Hall 210 Main St., Room 11 Northampton, MA 01060 Dear Committee Members, I support O’Connell Development Group’s request for $500,000 in CPA funding to save St. John Cantius from demolition, restore the exterior of the church to historic preservation standards, and provide the City with a permanent historic preservation easement. The building is one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in Northampton and the Pioneer Valley, and its bell tower serves as a landmark of Northampton’s skyline. St. John Cantius is also a proud symbol of the Polish community’s determination and contributes to Northampton’s distinctive character. Preserving historic buildings such as St. John Cantius is what CPA funding is earmarked for and funding should be granted to protect this beautiful building which certainly deserves it. Sincerely, John Klepacki, Jr. Cc: Martha Lyon, Historical Commission Deb Henson, Chair of the Friends of St. John Cantius Church
