Dear Ms. Lavalley,
I’m writing to support Historic Northampton’s request for CPA funds to assist in the reopening of the Shepherd Barn. This
project is an essential part of Historic Northampton’s community programming, which encompasses not only physical
historic preservation but also the human and natural history of the area. Completing the restoration of the Shepherd Barn
will allow HN to expand its museum space but, more importantly, its widely varied programs for families, kids, residents
and visitors. Under the new co-directors, Historic Northampton has transformed from a dusty, dry museum to a vital
community organization. Its location right downtown makes this especially important. As a Northampton resident (and
occasional HN volunteer), I’m excited about the opportunities that the Shepherd Barn project will achieve.
