Newton Department of Geosciences Smith College Assisted by Steven Hall Matt Lemberg Northampton Fire Department Methods Bathymetric data was collected using vertical beam data from a Teledyne RDI RiverRay Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler mounted to the side of a boat. Approximately 3000 data points were collected from the area of the two piers located just south of Shepherd Island (Figure 1). In addition, the emergent portions of the piers were mapped using an EOS Arrow 100 GNSS system. The data was process using ArcMap software by first constructing a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) and this was then converted to a raster with a 0.5m cell size. A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was constructed from the raster. Figure 1. Map of the Connecticut River just south of Shepherd Island showing RiverRay transects.
