King Street ORDER City Council 8_15_2013 August 15, 2013 Upon the recommendation of Planning Board and Office of Planning and Sustainability BE IT ORDERED WHEREAS, The Sustainable Northampton Comprehensive Plan, adopted by City Council, the Planning Board and other city boards and commissions, includes a city policy of accommodating bicycles and pedestrians along every street, also known as a Complete Streets Policy; and WHEREAS, In 2011, the City hired Nelson\Nygaard Associates to conduct a Design Charrette to create a comprehensive vision for King Street and Main Street as complete streets to accommodate the traffic volume and bicycles and pedestrians; and WHEREAS, Consistent with those visions, the Planning Board has to date accepted donations of strips of property, in fee or by easement, to accommodate current and future pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on three properties along King Street (Lia Kia, Northampton Crossing, and Northampton Volkswagen/Country Hyundai) as part of the traffic mitigation required under Northampton’s zoning; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED, That the Mayor is authorized to accept easements or fee-simple title to strips of land along King Street to accommodate the offered donations and future donations on King Street.
