We think all of the requirements will be fulfilled. There is a need for bed and breakfast homes in the Northampton area; especially when any events are being held at any of the colleges ini the area. Rooms at inns and motels are filled to capacity and visitors must travel upwards of fifty miles for accomodations. The Hilltown bed and breakfast homes as far away as Cumington and OindsQr have all their rooms taken for these events and they have reservations for rooms as much as a year in advance. i C Many people prefer to stay with private families rather than go to an impersonal motel and this type of person is on the increase. The Northampton Chamber of Commerce receives many calls for information; regarding bed and breakfast homes and this is especially true durinoI the fall foliage season. The Smith College alumni house is another facility that receives many calls for this information. The Massachusetts Department of Commerce, Division of Tourism has I' compiled a list of bed and breakfast homes that are in operation in the state and is seeking others to promote an increase of visitors to the state. Having only three rooms to rent to visitors will mean no more than three cars at any one time and this should not create any traffic congestion or any additional hazgrd to pedestrian safety. Parking will be on our property and not on No. Main Street. I C , Having a maximum number of six visitors should net create a drain o the water, drain or sewer systems or any other municipal system. We hav strict rule regarding smoking and do net allow it in the house. i We de not intend to erect a sign publieizing our operation as we will rely on referrals from the Chamber of Commeree, Smith College Alumni House and brochures. Room rentals will be by reservation only and this will allow us to screen prospective roomers. We feel that this will insure a better type of visitor. There will be no changes in our home or the grounds 7CY I i C 0 - z3U No 0 JUN 2 7 1984 9
