The key soil conserving crops and practices include notil, cover crops, . residue management and crop rotations. 3431 1 12.5acl 09 1998 COVER AND GREEN MANURE CROP Closegrowing grasses, Legumes, or small grain will be grown for season L protection, soil improvement and nutrient • management. 3431 11 12.5Acl 05 1999 Cross -slope Farming The purpose of the practice is to slow runoff, improve infiltration, and to reduce erosion, sediment, and water pollution. ALL farming operations on sloping cultivated Land will be done in such a way that tillage, Land preparation, planting, and cultivation are done crosswise to the predominant slope. Furrow grades should not exceed 2 %; however, grades may exceed 2% for distances not greater than 300 feet. 3431 1 10.Oacl 11 1 1998 GRASSED WATERWAY Existing waterways are to be maintained where shown on conservation plan map to convey runoff without causing erosion or flooding and to improve water quality. Mow at Least once each year after July 15. Cleaning out of the waterway will occur during a dry time of year, preferrably in the fall. Special care should be given to maintain the original design perimeters of the waterway. ALL excavated material may be spread in the field, but within 100' of any wetland or watercourse. Establishment of vegetation is critical to the integrity of the waterway. See enclosed seeding spec. HEL Fields marked as HEL are highly erodible fields. HEL* Reapplication of this conservation practice on this highly erodible field is required for compliance with the Food Security Act of 1985.
