Dear Community Preservation Committee,
We have received Massachusetts LAND grant for Burts Bog and Turtles) and the Federal Land and Water
Conservation Fund grant for Connecticut River Greenway. While we did not receive the LAND grant for
the JPST/Glendale Road property, we have received more CDBG affordable housing for the four
affordable lots we are creating than planned, which allows us to lower our CPA open space ask. It also
means that IF CPC funds all of our requests we can take advantage of one‐time opportunities to protect
amazing open space at below market price.
We currently have eight parcels under deposit, a record number. The map shows all conservation,
recreation, park, and school sites in the city (light green) and our 8 pending projects (in dark green).
(Our other pending opportunities are not time‐limited and so not shown here.)

While the conservation fund is usually reserved for upcoming projects, we have so many pending
projects that all of the fund will immediately be used to leverage these projects.
This is the only time we have ever applied and not offered an alternative or a delay to funding a project
because the consequences of losing these lost opportunities, all of which are at below market prices, is
so great. As you can see, even with this funding, we are doing a more aggressive match than ever
before and will need to call in every donor and grant resource.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Wayne Feiden, FAICP
