Letter off Revisions to Application The Trustees of the Smith Charities 51 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 413-584-0415 Lydia Szych Jane A. Lebiecki President Treasurer November 11, 2016 Community Preservation Committee c/o Office of Planning and Sustainability 210 Main Street, Room 11, City Hall Northampton, MA 01060 Re: Smith Charities Building Study Dear Committee Members: nd Thank you for taking time to speak with me at your meeting on November 2. As discussed, please accept this letter as an amendment to our CPC Application. We would like to revise our application as follows: Total Cost of Project: $29,000.00 Northampton CPC $14,500.00 MPPF Grant $f4,500.00 The only additional town we will apply to is Hatfield as its history with Smith Charities is the most significant being the founder, Oliver Smith’s birth place and residence. We will be asking Hatfield for an additional $2,500 in CPC funds and, if successful, would drop Northampton’s contribution to $12,000.00. The scope of the study is also revised. We have removed from the study that portion nd dealing with the uses for the 2 floor space including handicap accessibility, substituting only nd the feasibility of a 2 means of ingress and egress from the rear of the building, as follows:  An Architectural/Structural Analysis and Conditions Survey of the Site and the Exterior and Interior of the building, including assessment of mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.  Treatment/Restoration Recommendations, including a Cyclical Maintenance Plan. nd  Feasibility of a 2 means of ingress and egress from the rear of the building.  A feasibility study for the restoration of the lobby to correct an inappropriate renovation done in the 1970s using existing woodwork from 1865, including plans and estimates for same. We currently have stored on the premises some of the original, historic woodwork which was in the front lobby. If successful, the Study will give Smith Charities options to save this historic woodwork and restore the front lobby (See picture on Page 11).  Creating of a set of existing condition plans for use on future projects. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate contact me. Very truly yours, Lydia Szych, President Enclosures
