MassAudubon Support Letter

Community Preservation Committee
City of Northampton

Northampton, MA 01060
Dear Members of the Community Preservation Committee,
I am writing to express Mass Audubon’s support for additional CPA funding for the city’s
purchase of conservation land and restrictions. The city has long been a leader in protecting
important open space areas within its borders, working to preserve the natural areas, vistas,
farmlands, clean air and clean water that make Northampton one of the most livable cities in the
Commonwealth.
Mass Audubon has been proud to be a partner in these efforts. Over the years we have made
significant investments to acquire and protect lands at our Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary and to
make it a center of education, recreation, and habitat protection serving the people of
Northampton and surrounding towns. The city has often been a key partner in those efforts. We
have also been pleased to assist the city on protection projects elsewhere, particularly in the
Mineral Hills region. By working together, and with each bringing to bear resources unavailable
to the other, Mass Audubon and the city have been able to accomplish much more than either
could have alone. The recent Rocky Hill Greenway project is a great example.
On behalf of Mass Audubon, I am pleased to write in support of additional CPA funding for the
city’s ongoing conservation land acquisition program.
Sincerely,
Charles Wyman
