Excavated soils will be temporarily stockpiled on site in the lawn area north of the building or
directly loaded onto trucks. Following removal and replacement of the UST, hardscaped areas
will be restored in kind and disturbed lawn areas will be loaned and seeded. However, due to
trees, including two medium sized white pine
their proximity to the existing UST, three (3) will need to be removed. To replace the
trees (Pinus strobus) as shown on Photograph (3)
functions and values of these trees, five (5) red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) trees will be
planted along the fence line, north of building.
_ Alternatives Analysis
Based on the nature of the proposed project and the location of the UST and existing heating
_ infrastructure in relation to the building, there are no Practical and Substantially Equivalent
Alternatives for the project as defined under 310 CMR 10.58 (4)(c). Furthermore, the
replacement of the existing UST with a new tank with modern spill containment and alarm
technologies will provide significant protection against a potential release of oil that could
threaten the environment, given the proximity of the UST to the Mill River.
