Evaluation: Damon House Windows
There is no way of knowing if the windows on the west side of the Damon House are salvageable
until they have been removed and assessed.
If the windows themselves can be repaired, here is what would need to be done:
- Remove sash
- Cover openings
- Remove glass
- Prep for repair
- Soak all compromised components in epoxy-based wood hardener
- Fill all voids and areas of rot with epoxy putty
- Sand, clean, and prime with oil-based primer
- Reinstall glass
- Prime new glazing
- Apply two coats of exterior house paint
- Prep, prime, and paint openings
- Reinstall windows
- Add fixed exterior storm windows (deadlights)
Estimated costs for five nine-over-six windows:
- Remove sash and cover openings $ 200
- Materials 200
- Repair, reglaze, and paint 2,000
- Materials 500
- Prep & paint openings, reinstall windows 525
- Materials 150
- Install five deadlights 200
- Material cost of deadlights TBD
