Re: Request for reallocation of CPC grant money for the Florence Organic
Community Garden (FOG)
Date: July 8, 2013
UNDER BUDGET THUS FAR :

Natural Vitality )
Soil amendment. Cover crop:
$3369 surplus ( reason: overestimated cost b/c only
cropped one season )
Edible hedgerow: $4000 surplus ( reason: completed project with in - kind donations ,
grants from FSB, Greenleaf foundation and Xeric Foundation, & private
contributions )
Driveway: $8193 surplus (reason: pro bono labor and supplies provided by Duffy
Willard ; scaled back job to just entryway )
Plantings in bioswales: $5000 ( reason: seeking NRCS grant and in - kind
donations )
Riverfront buffer & invasive species management $3000 ( reason: seeking NRCS
grant)
Initial compost delivery: $4000 ( reason: created self - sustaining program of
gardener purchase of compost )
Temporary signage : $2000 ( reason: used 100% scrap materials , volunteer labor )
Crosswalk at Meadow St $4000 ( reason: City provided this)
Surplus thus far: A pprox $34 ,000
OVER BUDGET THUS FAR :
Irrigation installation: $ 14000 deficit (Reason : 1. U nder estimate d cost of job
due to submission of grant 1 year+ before construction specs were known, 2.
City mistakenly informed GFN that it had to provide prevailing wage rates for
this job which affected the bidding of the project)
Surveying and staking: $2900 projected deficit (Reason: additional $2900 to
purchase permanent, heavy - duty, safe, numbered survey stakes for all our
garden plots )
Garden tools: $2000 projected deficit. (Reason: underestimated garden tool
needs for 400+ gardeners, especially mowers for so large a prope rty).
Tool shed: $777 deficit (Reason : constructed larger, permanent, custom - made
structure . We constructed a $15,000 shed for under $3000 with volunteer labor
and mostly donated materials )
Deficit thus far: Approx . $20,000
Request: Reallocate surplus funds to areas of deficit.
