After having read the Massachusetts Forest Cutting Plan Information Sheet on page one, indicate your objective by checking the appropriate box below. ® LT — Long -term Forest Management ❑ ST - Short -term Harvest Planned management of the forest to achieve one or more of the Harvest of trees with the main intention of producing following objectives: produce immediate and maximize long -term short-term income with minimal consideration given to income, enhance wildlife habitat, improve recreational opportunities, improving the future forest condition, which often results protect soil and water quality, or produce forest specialty products. in a forest dominated by poor quality and low value specie I (we) have read the Massachusetts Cutting Plan Information Sheet, and am aware of my (our) management.options. I (we) hereby certify that I (we) have the legal authority to carry out the operation described above. I (we) certify that I (we) have notified the Conservation Commission in the town in which the operation is to take place and the abutters of record within two hundred feet of the area to be harvested. I (we) understand that the volumes and values (Ch61 only) in this plan have not been independently verified by the service forester upon approval and will report final values and volumes to the Director or his/her agent if the final figures differ from those reported. This cut will remove 50 percent of the basal area. Poor to good quality hemlock, white pine, red oak, chestnut oak, black birch, soft maple, yellow birch, and beech will be removed. Pulp, cordwood, poles, and sawtimber will be harvested. Declining hemlock in ested with hemlock woolly adelgid will be targeted for removal. Patches up to 1 acre will be created where declining hemlocks are clustered to allow light and spacing for regeneration. Areas between the patches will be thinned. Poorly formed, undesirable, storm damaged, and declining trees will be removed in thinned areas. Poor to good quality saw logs will be removed from thinned areas to reduce competition between desirable trees. The desired future condition is a well spaced overstory of sawtimber sized red oak occurring with mixed hardwoods and a white pine component. Stand II will be treated with a seed tree shelterwood harvest. 70 percent of the basal area will be removed. Hemlock, red oak, chestnut oak, soft maple, white birch, hickory, and beech will be removed. Poorly formed, diseased, declining, and undesirable pulp, cordwood, poles, and sawtimber will be targeted for removal to reduce competition by increasing spacing between desirable species. The desired future condition is a well spaced overstory of large red oak sawtimber with full crowns. Leaving full crowned, vigorous, mature trees will provide seeds for regeneration. - i i ,J ^ V3 ti o H- - .. o. - - a co — C=) , — — -- o ° -- z b 3 0 N- - +-' m f al it > U 03 0 \\\ Z a a, S 10 / 11 H r o` i 11 1 i i 11 O °O 1 \ 0c) i cn 11 00 496 12` ,t 0.
