notification to building - Shaw's Preferably PreservedNORT-HAMP -T -ON EISTORICAL_- COMMISSION - - - M f CITY HALL 210 MAIN STREET NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS 01060 CITY HALL William Fenno Pratt December 5, 2012 Louis Hasbrouck Northampton Building Commissioner Puchalski Municipal Building 212 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 RE: Historical Commission demolition review, 'Shaw's Motel,' 87 Bridge Street Parcel 32A -185 Dear Louis: In accordance with Chapter 161 of the Northampton Ordinance, "Demolition," the Historical Commission held a public hearing November 26 to determine whether 87 Bridge Street should be "Preferably Preserved." The Commission voted that it would "be in the public interest to be preserved rather than demolished," and a demolition delay of up to one year was enacted. Unless the Historical Commission approves an alternate plan, a demolition permit may not be issued for the structure until November 1, 2013. Demolition may proceed within the year period if the Commission determines that the intent and purpose of the demolition review ordinance is served despite demolition; or that there is no feasible option for the building's preservation: The Commission would be happy consider any additional information about the structure at a future meeting. An Activity Tracking Sheet is enclosed. Please note that this determination is only for the structures located on Parcel 32A -185, the Commission did not review 7 and 9 Pomeroy Terrace, and any application for demolition of those structures will require additional review.
