uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. The land on which this house was built was, as early as 1873, the alms house property of Northampton.
In 1873 the alms house was located to the northwest of this house, and according to the map of 1895 there was a house on this site added to the alms house property, presumably for an
alms house manager. By 1919 its association with the alms house was over and it was occupied by Michael Garvey, who was a house carpenter and his wife Lucy, their three children and
a Danish lodger who was a house painter. Katherine Garvey was next in 1930, though the relationship among the Garveys is not clear. She was a washerwoman and kept a kennel as well and
