Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. This is a two-and-a-half story Colonial Revival home built between 1895 and 1915. The asymmetrically massed home is under a cross gabled roof with a projecting pedimented gable with molded cornice and wide frieze facing the street. A replacement window in the gable field is framed with classical entablature. The clapboard sided house has a partial-width front porch with low hipped roof that wraps around to eastern elevation of the home. The porch has paired Tuscan columns that rest on high brick piers, a wide frieze, a balustrade of square balusters, and a lattice apron. A smaller porch with shed roof is located directly above the front entry, but was enclosed at some point in the 20th century erasing its original architectural features. The northwest corner of the front façade is clipped and, defined by corner boards, loosely forms a two story three-sided bay. The house has some original one over one sash windows that are covered by metal storm windows. Windows are framed by simple flat stock surrounds with drip edge lintels and sills. Two decorative multi-colored, multi-glazed windows are located above one another on the first and second floors near the angle formed by the main block of the house and the eastern cross-gable. There is a brick chimney at the intersection of the gables at the center of the home. The house rests on a high brick foundation and is covered by a slate roof. The property includes a one bay garage to the rear of the house. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. From Form B of 1980, “This house was built around the turn of the century on lot 9 of the Columbus Avenue subdivision. The plan was filed in 1892, but few houses were constructed on the western side of the street in the early years.” BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES Beers, F. W.
