Oct 13, 2011 Minutes The Northampton Zoning Board of Appeals Minutes of Meeting Oct 13, 2011 City of Northampton Hearing Room 18, 210 Main St., Northampton, MA Members Present: Time  Chair, David Bloomberg  Vice Chair, Malcolm B. “Barry” Smith  Sara Northrup  Bob Riddle, Assoc. Member  Elizabeth Silver, Associate Member Staff:  Senior Planner, Carolyn Misch Planning Director, Wayne Feiden David Bloomberg opened the request by Richard Michelson for a special permit for 5:30 P.M. a two banner signs at 132 Main St, Northampton, Map ID 32C-7. Bob Allen, manager at Michelson described the interest in installing two projecting banners from the pillars of the gallery. The top would be approximately 12’ above the sidewalk. The banners would be between 3 and 4’ tall and 10” wide. He noted that the signs would change periodically, but not too many times during the year. Elizabeth Silver asked whether there would be lights on the banners. (none planned) Sara Northrup asked for clarification on the height above the sidewalk. There was no public comment. Upon motion by Elizabeth Silver and second by Malcolm Smith, the board voted unanimously to close the hearing. Upon motion by Elizabeth Silver and second by Barry Smith, the board voted unanimously to issue the permit with the following conditions: 1.The signs be at least 7’ above the sidewalk 2.The signs be no taller than 4’ nor wider than 10” Upon motion by Bob Riddle and second by Elizabeth Silver, the Board voted unanimously to approve the minutes for Aug 11 and Sept 8, 2011. 5:45 Board voted unanimously to adjourn.
