ESHD budget reductions
March 6, 2008
Dear CPC Members:
On Saturday, I promised to return to you information on possible further reductions to
our proposed budget. The Elm Street Historic Commission has worked hard to determine
what items could be deducted from the budget, and the following list reflects that effort.
The Commission feels that it is necessary to keep the section on Green Building
Materials in the handbook, but also feels that it is one aspect of the budget that they can
successfully undertake on their own. Since the charge from City Council was to consider
expansion of the District, the survey work of new properties cannot be removed.
Initial funding requested for Elm Street Historic District Project: $38,778
REDUCTIONS:
-Update and complete 77 Forms B
For existing properties in District -18,018
(To be undertaken at a later date)
-Create a section in handbook on Green building materials that may be
considered during renovations and new construction
(To be undertaken by ESHD Commission) -780
-Reduce number of copies of the handbook from
500 to 300 and use alternative printing on nonglossy paper -600
Adjusted total request for funding $19,380
In its literature, the CPC has cited the Elm Street Historic District as one of the tools that
the city of Northampton uses to protect Northampton's historic resources. We hope that
the Committee looks favorably upon our request so that the District may continue to do
just that. Thank you all for your consideration. Please don't hesitate to contact me with
any questions you might have.
Sincerely,
Marisa Labozzetta, Chair
Elm Street Historic District
