Well over a year ago,- this office advised the Northampton Planning staff that the property did not appear eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. For description of project boundaries see attached Exhibit "A." The existing St. Mi.chaelts School is actually two buildings connected as one, built at different times. The building is an average of 3 stories high and will support a new fourth floor. The present building is and has been vacant for some time. The building will be rehabilitated and recycled into 79 units plus a superintendent's apartment, of low and moderate income housing for the elderly subsidized under Section 8 of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937. The project will consistof 69 one - bedroom and 6 two - bedroom and 5 efficiency apartments with accessory areas such as laundry, community room, congregate dining room and kitchen, and recreation room.
