As a nearby neighbor and frequent user of the park, I've been saddened to see it closed to public use for such long spans of time. Starting a decade ago when we'd take our baby daughter to the swings and playground equipment, and now, when we go to watch the softball games, Maines Field provides a wonderful space for recreation, socialization, and connection with nature. IThe park's closure in '23-24 not only disrupted recreational activities but also affected the mental and physical well-being of many community members. The loss of access to these facilities, particularly the walking trails, sports field, and social gathering spots, was felt deeply by all who rely on the park as a place for exercise, stress relief, and connection with others. For instance, we were not able to have our annual Bay State Village community gathering there, something that brings our neighbors together year after year, or to host my daughter's birthday party there as we've done in years past. The proposed Flood Resilience Plan is a vital step toward ensuring that the entire park can continue to serve as a safe, welcoming, and resilient space for the community, regardless of future weather events. This plan will help protect the park’s infrastructure. Implementing flood mitigation measures, improving drainage, and creating more sustainable features are essential in reducing the park's vulnerability to future flooding, ensuring that it remains accessible to all. By investing in a Flood Resilience Plan for Maines Field Park, we are not only protecting a key recreational space but also investing in the long-term health and well-being of our community. I support this initiative and urge you to prioritize the necessary funding to ensure the park’s future resilience. Sincerely, Hannah Gyovai Nonotuck Street, Florence
