Organizational Meeting ScriptWelcome to the Northampton City Council meeting of January 7, 2020. This is the organizational meeting of the 2020 – 2021 City Council. I am Councilor Marianne LaBarge, and I will be
presiding.
As always, we start the meeting with public comment. Is there anybody who wishes to address the City Council? Hearing none, I will ask for a roll call.
(Laura calls roll.)
The first item on the agenda is the election of the Council President for the term 2020 to 2021. Once the Council President is elected, he or she will assume the position of chair.
I will begin by opening the floor to nominations. Once all nominations have been received, I will close nominations. The nominee, or nominees if more than one, will be allowed to make
a statement and City Councilors will be offered an opportunity to speak to the nomination. I will then call for a roll call vote and each City Councilor will be asked to state the name
of their preferred candidate.
Nominations are now in order for the office of Council President. The floor is open for nominations.
Councilor A is nominated. If more than one, Councilor B is nominated, and so forth.
“Are there any further nominations? If not, [pause} nominations are closed.”
Councilor Sciarra, you are welcome to make a statement.

If there are no further comments, we will have a roll call. Please state the name of your choice for Council President when your name is called.
Councilor Sciarra is, by acclamation, the President of the Northampton City Council.
