RE: Historic Preservation Certification Application
Dear Ms. Macleod:
The interior structure of the Draper Farmstead was adhered to as closely as
possible. The changes, increased width of staircases, square footage alter-
ations of living space and fire walls were all necessary to meet the building
and fire code requirements. Care was taken in these changes to not change
the positions of windows, entrances and exits and general floor plans in
each unit.
The rear exterior wood porches were unrestorable. Their size, railing heights
and design were violations of building and fire code requirements. The new
porches, also wood, were built according to code and their positions were
not changed.
The windows in the original building were mostly of the two over two variety
and some double hung. The main portion of the house, the addition, also had
a combination of the two over two, double hung and other replacements.
Because of the uncertainty of which were the original type, the double hung
windows were chosen.
I hope this additional information aids you in the review of the application.
If you should have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Floyd Andrus
Enclosure
