Request of Daniel O'Connell ' s
Sons , Inc. , for Extension ,c '
to Special Permit
December 12, 1979
The Board of Appeals met in the Hearing Room, City Hall , at
5:30 PM, December 12 , 1979 , to act on the petition of Daniel
O 'Connell ' s Sons , Inc. , for an extension of a special permit
granted on April 13 , 1978 , to convert S Michael 's School into
housing for the elderly. Present were Eric B. Gervais, Chairman ,
Thomas Brushway, and Robert Buscher, Associate.
A motion was made and seconded to ccept the petition.
Robert Mahar, President of O 'Connell ' s Sons , Inc. , told the
Board that the option to purchase the property had been extended
by St. Mary ' s Parish, which had operated the school . He sub-
mitted letters supporting the project from Doris Knight , Chairman
of the Planning Board, Arthur Pichette of the Housing and Community
Development Section, Lower Pioneer Valley Regional Planning Commis-
sion , and Mayor-Elect David Musante.
In response to a question posed by Mr. Brushway, Mr. Mahar
indicated no substantial deviation from the original plan.
He said that a revised application would be submitted to HUD
by the end of the week.
The Board then voted unanimously to grant a one-year extension
to expire on April 13 , 1981 .
The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 PM. Present, in addition
to the Board members and Mr. Mahar, was a representative of the
news media.
