Upon the recommendation of the Community Preservation Committee
22.167 An Order to Appropriate $500,000 in CPA Funds for 10 Hawley Street Rehabilitation Project
Ordered, that
WHEREAS, O’Connell Hawley LLC submitted a CPA application for critical exterior
repairs to the former St. John Cantius Church at 10 Hawley Street, as part of
a larger adaptive reuse project;
WHEREAS, the building is a contributing resource to the Pomeroy Terrace National
Register Historic District, is important to the public for the enjoyment and
appreciation of the City’s architectural, cultural and historical heritage, and its
preservation serves a critical public purpose;
WHEREAS, all work will conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the
Treatment of Historic Properties, and will be in accordance with the
recommendations of the Historic Structures Report prepared for the
structure under the guidance of a qualified preservation consultant to be
retained for the duration of the CPA funded portion of the work;
WHEREAS, on August 24, 2022, the Northampton Community Preservation Committee
voted unanimously to recommend that $500,000 in Community Preservation
Act funds be used to support this project.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED,
That $500,000 be appropriated from Community Preservation Act funding to O’Connell
Hawley LLC for the 10 Hawley Street rehabilitation project. And, that the grantee meets
the conditions approved by the Community Preservation Committee, the Mayor, and
City Council.
