Vreeland Design Associates Re: Jeremy Gantz, 24 High St, Florence, MA: Structural assessment of the existing hous, roofs to support proposed PV solar panel arrays. I have investigated the roof framing for the proposed PV solar panel installations. The origi al 1- 3/4-story, 25'x 30' bungalow style house was constructed in 1924. A 2-story, 14' wide x 12 long, shed roof addition was constructed off the back south facing side starting at the west gable e d. An 8' wide shed roof dormer is adjacent to the east side of the addition. 15 PV solar panels : e to be installed on the addition south facing roof, 3 solar panels on the south facing roof of the s ed dormer and 4 solar panels on the remaining south facing roof of the house. The roof framin u of the addition and shed dormer are full dimension 2x6 rafters installed 16"on-center, spanning 11'-8". The addition roof has a slope of 2.25/12 and the shed dormer has a 4/12 slope. The house roil f is framed with full dimension 2x6 rafters installed 22"-24"on-center, spanning 11'-6"with an 8/12 slope. 2x6 ceiling joists are secured to the rafters and prevent the roofs from spreading. The roofing is new standing seam metal roofing. I have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed PV solar panel arrays. Based on my calculations and a PV solar panel unit weight of 46± lbs, with the attachment points of the . ays placed at a maximum of 4' on center and staggered to minimize the load to any one rafter, e existing roof framing of the main house, shed dormer and addition roofs are adequate to support the proposed PV solar arrays and the snow and wind load requirements of the current MA S .to Building Code for the City of Northampton.
