The Betty Allen DAR Chapter house, built @ 1754, is located at 148 South Street, Northampton. One of the finest
remaining Colonial houses in Northampton, this house is in the Fort Hill Historic District and recorded in both the
national and state registration of Historic Places. The historical significance, age, and condition of this 2 1/2 story
house has led to a partnership with the Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School. The electrical shop, under
Paul Chandler, has agreed to use the house to teach students how to replace knob & tube electrical systems in
historical buildings. The students will supply labor only for the work associated with this educational project which
is scheduled for the 2022 – 2023 academic year.
