Subject: Inquiry to Councilor La Barge about Acme Auto Fencing on King Street
Dear Mr. &Mrs. Pease,
I received a phone call from Councilor Marianne La Barge today about your concerns that
Acme Automotive on King Street does not have fencing surrounding their facility. The
answer is relatively simple, the area they are located is zoned HB and in a HB zone they
are not required to fence in their property to screen it from view. The question was asked
I believe because you had to provide fencing around your property. I reviewed your file
and found that a notice of violation had been sent to you for operation of a auto repair
facility in a GI zone without a special permit, you applied for the special permit and were
granted the Special Permit on June 6, 1984. The Zoning board in granting your special
permit imposed several conditions one of which was that, " A stockade fence shall be
erected around the work area and shall be properly maintained until such time as the
evergreen trees have grown to a height and circumference sufficient to shield the operation
from view of passers-by."
I hope this answers the questions that you had asked of Councilor La Barge, if you have
any other questions please feel free to call me at 587-1240.
Sincerely,
Anthony Patillo
Building Commissioner
City of Northampton
