RE: Bridge Street Safe Routes to School, Section 106 Review, MassDOT Project 609515
At its meeting of November 30, 2020, the Northampton Historical Commission reviewed
the plans and project information for the Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program for
the Bridge Street Elementary School. The Commission noted that the will increase
pedestrian safety around the Bridge Street school, including street improvements within the
Pomeroy Terrace National Register district. The Commission voted agreed that the work as
proposed should not impact historic resources and to convey support for the work. The
Commission noted proximity of gravestones to the road edge at the Bridge Street Cemetery,
and encouraged careful work to avoid cemetery impacts.
