Dear Ms. Misch
I’ve been following via the Gazette the proposals on the Hawley St. Church project. I was distressed to read that the new developers
were planning to demolish the church and belltower as part of their plan. I am a long time part time resident of Northampton and add
my support to preserve the bell tower. Attached is one of many photos I’ve taken over the years of the belltower. It’s an iconic landmark
that I believe should not be erased. It has an important presence for many people in town.
My husband preserved the historic facade of the old Northampton Post Office on Pleasant Street when he redeveloped it into office
spaces. Everyone benefits when historic architecture is preserved for the community.
I hope that your committee and the developers will find a way to preserve the belltower.
Thank you for your attention to my concerns.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth O’Grady
