Planned Use
The Arts Trust Building at 33 Hawley Street will serve to replace some of the affordable space for
creative work that has been lost in Northampton over the past decade or so. Moreover, it will also
provide new opportunities the creative spaces in the building will include three informal
classroom/rehearsal studio spaces, a visual arts gallery, a black box theater and ancillary spaces, and a
flexible performance/event space. A large entrance lobby/cafe/ box office area and administrative
offices will complete the building. The Trust hosted a neighborhood meeting last September to outline
plans and seek feedback regarding the project. Feedback was positive and no substantive issues arose.
Further, the building has been in use since acquisition though at a far lower level than we expect
post -renovation. In addition, members of the Arts Trust board have met with members of the Ward 3
Association, who in turn have expressed their support for the Hawley Street project.
