CPA Mineral Hills Habitat Restoration 2017 annual report
Mineral Hills Habitat Restoration 2017 Annual CPA Report
Conservation Commission
The Mineral Hills Habitat Restoration CPA #90 is funding habitat restoration on the former pasture on
Chesterfield Road.
In 2016:
1. We installed rocks blocking ATV vehicles to the rear of the parcel using non‐CPA funds (leveraged by
CPA). We did not want to do habitat restoration until we reduced the abuse of the property.
2. We met with Smith Vocational and Agriculture School and they initially agreed to graze goats on the
property in 2017.
In 2017:
1. Smith Vocational determined that the site was not feasible for goat grazing requiring a new
approach.
2. After looking for farmers to lease the property, we determined that there is no farming interest
because the site has too many challenges for farmers.
3. We determined that the best invasive control is to clear some invasives and plant new native trees
to start the process of outcompeting the invasives.
Current Status
We intend to complete the project in 2018 based on the plan we created in late 2017.
