Building Permit BP-2004-0026 for deck on roof
Dear.Mr.Cadette,
I made a site inspection this morning to 62 Market Street for the deck that you had constructed prior to
obtaining building permit.I failed the inspection for the following reasons:
a. The deck construction and plans must be stamped by a structural engineer. The lmeewall that
is supporting the front portion of the deck appears to be out of plumb and leaning forward.
The method of attachment of the ledger to the house side is made with what appears to be'''/"
lag bolts which I want a structural engineer to verify is sufficient to maintain the 601b load
the state building code requires.
b. The deck is within two feet of a chimney which is a violation of Massachusetts State building
code section 3610.2.5(copy attached)which states a chimney shall extend at least two feet
higher than any portion of the building within ten feet..
The deck should not be used until you have a structural engineer verify that it is sufficient to maintain the
loads required.Decks can very easily be overloaded and in extreme instances failure results in collapse
with potential injury or loss of life resulting. Please contact this office upon receipt of this letter with you
plans to make corrections. The building permit will not be signed off until such time as corrections are
made.Failure on your part to take any action to correct the problem will reslut in this office proceeding to
housing court for enforcement.
I am forwarding a copy of this letter to the Board of Health for their records.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 587-1240.
Sincerely,
Anthony Patillo
