QITARY SEWER OVERFLOW—238 Nonotuck St, Florence Chronoloev
lnesday June 6, 2012
13:00 PM DPW staff responded to a report of sewer odor from the Chemiplastica Inc.
rerty at 238 Nonotuck Street in Florence. DPW staff(Tom Kelly, John Tylon, Bendan Shea,
Doug McDonald) and Health Department Inspector Daniel Wasiek investigated. A 12 inch
outfall to the Mill River was located approximately 335 feet west of Bliss Street on the
rerty of Chemiplastica Inc. The outfall had a steady, small flow of clear liquid. Grey material
observed coating the bottom of the pipe and the rocks below the outfall. Occasional sewer
II was observed at the outfall. According to Bill from Chemiplastica, the outfall should only
lischarging cooling water from the plant.
rrsday June 7, 2012
10 AM DPW staff(Doug McDonald) collected a sample from the outfall and delivered to the
thampton Wastewater Treatment Plant lab to complete an e-coli test.
PM DPW staff(John Hall, Brendan Shea, John Tylon, and Doug McDonald) attemped to
a camera in the 10 inch sewer main on the south side of the Chemiplastica property from a
thole near Bliss Street. Camera was halted at 20 feet and could not continue due to debris in
line.
lay June 8,2012
)0 AM Results of the e-coli test indicated a positive result for the presence of sewage (1,986
)1i1100ml)
nday June 11, 2012
AM —3:00 PM DPW Staff cleaned out a portion of the sewer main on the south side of the
.miplastica property.
sday June 12, 2012
) AM—2:00 PM DPW Staff continued to clean out a portion of the sewer main on the south
of the Chemiplastica property. Completed pipe video inspection of 120 feet of the sewer
n. No major breaks were observed.
nesday June 13, 2012
J
AM—2:00 PM DPW Staff continued to clean out a portion of the sewer main on the south
:of the Chemiplastica property. Located two additional manhole structures on the sewer
n.Flow from drain outfall reduced to a trickle. No cross connection or leak from the sewer
n to the drain system identified to date.
arsday June 14, 2012
3 AM — 2:00 PM DPW Staff cleared a blockage in the sewer manhole to the east of the drain
fall which may have resulted in reduced flow or blockage of the sewer main. This blockage
y have resulted in a surcharge of sewer main which may have resulted in sewage seeping into
drain line through loose joints in both systems. DPW Staff completed a dye test in the sewer
in with extra water added to the line. No dye was observed discharging from the drain outfall
ye was observed flowing in the sewer manhole to the east of the drain outfall. The drain
vas inspected within view of the outfall and no liquid was observed discharging to the line.
Iditional dye test was completed in the sewer service from Chemiolastica to the sewer
.pie and confirmed that the Chemiplastica sewer service discharged to the sewer main and
re was observed in the outfall. No repair is planned at this time because the dye test did not
ate flow from the sewer main to the drain outfall. The DPW plans to continue inspecting the
nd will follow up with additional e-coli sampling to confirm that the problem has been
triad.
