Public Exposure Plan - 2
September 27, 2016
Dear Community Preservation Act Committee;
The Academy of Music Theatre plans to display the 1913 Tuttle Curtain at our regular history tours, and when appropriate for the safety and protection of the historic curtain, at galas,
town official events, chamber of commerce events, and classical concerts. We will also work with the Five Colleges theater and history departments to invite classes for a viewing and
discussion. Amherst College theater department provides an annual history tour of the auditorium for theater majors. We would also collaborate with Historic Northampton and make a viewing
available during a scheduled walking tour.
We plan on four history tours over the next six months, public events, during the month of November, January, February, and April. We do not have any open dates during the months of
December and March. The date for the first history tour is November 29, 2016. The second history tour will be January 11, 2017. February and April will be scheduled at a later time,
in order to accommodate prospective rentals.
The Academy of Music provided a reveal event for the public on September 13th from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, which will include Historic Northampton, representatives of Curtains Without Borders,
and the great granddaughter of Maurice Tuttle.
The Academy has reached out to several regional and local papers for coverage of project and the reveal event. We provided a short VIP event for city council, the mayor, CPA members,
Academy major donors, sponsors, and the president of Smith College prior to the public event.
Sincerely,
Debra J’Anthony, Executive Director
