To create physical aspects that serve the needs and enhance the well-being of the individuals and the community. To live in harmonious relationship to our place on the earth. In keeping with that mission, several of our member households have joined together in wanting to raise and care for"backyard chickens." By doing so we feel we are enhancing the well-being of our community by providing local, organic food as well as helping children and adults care for animals. We are aware that Northampton zoning allows up to 3 hens per household. We are proposing to"pool"our households, as we do in many ways in cohousing,to create a community chicken coop on our property. The coop would be 8 feet by 10 feet, with an attached 10 foot by 25 foot run(see site plan for details and exact location). It would house a maximum of 20 chickens, but if fewer than 7 households participated in our chicken club, the number would be reduced to meet the 3 hens per household stipulation. The coop would be a prefabricated shed set on a flat gravel foundation, similar to tool sheds owned by other Unit Owners. Ni0 Gleam.%of VQ9e,ta.Aion i'S rues d. Part of the area that would contain the coop and run isisunderJa conservation restriction which states, "Access, clearing, cutting, construction, and maintenance of areas used for agriculture, recreation fields, man-made pond and sledding area are permitted for the benefit of the Unit Owners of RHC and their guests in such Open Space areas that are outside of the wetlands located on the premises." We believe that the coop and run conform to these stipulations, as they are an agricultural use benefiting our Unit Owners.
