Hello Chuck
Attached are photos of the Saner Roof where we're installing a 28 panel solar array after stripping and
reroofing the area. We have a permit of the roofing work and we started that work earlier this week.
This is a cathedral ceiling roof system that runs from the ridge to the outside wall, with no way of
determining the rafter dimension. However, there is an adjacent cathedral area where we were able
to determine that there were 2 x 12 rafters 16"o.c.,so we naturally assumed this area, which has a
much wider span,would be 2 x 12's as well.
However, when we removed the shingles,we double checked and saw that the roof has 2 x 10's which
are way undersized even for the code when the house was built. The rafters are 22' long with a run in
excess of 17'
We reached out to Dave Vreeland right away and he came up with the solution shown on the attached
plans, which we implemented right away as the roof was stripped.
Attached are photos showing the work we did yesterday. You'll see that we removed and reinstalled
one layer of insulation in order to install the 2 x 6's There is still about 40%of the area that has not
been roofed if you want to take a look.
If you'd like to stop by the guys will be working there in the morning, weather permitting.
I've asked Aron to call you in the morning.
Thanks
Nelson

IRONRIDGE XR Rail Family
Over their lifetime, solar panels experience countless
extreme weather events. Not just the worst storms in years,

Force-Stabilizing Curve
Sloped roofs generate both vertical and lateral
