Leeds,MA 01053 CITY OF NORTHAMPTON MASSACHUSETTS 01060 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH October 4, 1999 Re: Septic System Inspection 210 MAIN STREET NORTHAMPTON,MA 01080 Dear Mr. Brandt: A recent inspection of your septic system at 200 Audubon Rd., Leeds, conducted by Dennis LaCourse, revealed a potentially serious problem. Mr. LaCourse's inspection report indicates that while your septic system appeared to be functioning properly, the water line from the city water main in Audubon Rd. into your house seems to be passing directly under your leaching system. Such a condition violates the requirements of 310 CMR 15.00,Title 5 of the State Sanitary code, which states(in Sec. 15.211) that all leaching systems must be at least ten(10') feet from and eighteen(18")inches below any water line. A water line under a leach field poses a hazard to you and your family as well as all users of the city's water distribution system.A leak in the water line could allow sewage to be drawn into your house or into the city's water main when a back-pressure situation occurs. In order to insure the safety of our water distribution system and to protect your family the Board of Health under authority of Ch 21 A, Sec.13,is herewith ordering that your water line be relocated away from your leach field within forty-five(45)days of the receipt of this notice. A copy of this letter is being sent to Mr. Charles Borowski the Superintendent of the City's Water Department. Please contact Mr. Borowski to arrange for your contractor to make a new connection into the city water main. Please do not hesitate to contact the Board of Health office with any questions concerning this matter. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Very y yours, [%✓-^-"'' P ter J.Mc rlain,Health Agent Cert. Mail# 537 532 195 cc: Charles Borowski,Northampton Water Dept.
