28-009 (3) CLEARANCE TABLES
The first line in each chart shows the minimum clearances required if no shielding is used between the stove and stovepipe
chimney connector, and nearby combustible materials. To meet a variety of installation needs, reduced clearances
were established using stove and stovepipe heat shield, wall shields, or both.
Distances given in the top third of each chart consider both stove and stovepipe chimney clearance requirements in most
common installations.
After planning the position of your stove, you can double-check your chimney connector clearances in the middle section of
each chart. ---------

Mr . Albert Ulshoeffer 0 12
Office of Building Inspector
City Hall Annex
Northampton, Ma. MA 01
Dear Mr. Ulshoeffer:
The enclosed is the clearance tables I neglected to show
you when you came to inspect the placement of ray new stove.
You will note that the Intrepid model requires a minimum
clearance of 24" . My sto'e has been placed about 28"
from a combustible wail. A roaring fire , carefully monitored,
produced no overheating of the side wail. .
I hope you agree that the stove need not be moved 36" from
the wall as you indicated on my permit .
Very truly yours ,
Kathryn R. Lingner
