I've reviewed the existing building code and the work appears to fall within the historic building guidelines without additional variances. You should prepare a short code review pointing to those sections and provide it with the plans, specs, and AAB variances. We need one electronic and one hard copy of the plans unless the page sides do not exceed 11 x 17.Email to Ihasbrouck @northamptonma.gov. Thanks for the call,we look forward to working with you on this project. As always a major concern will be continuously maintained safe exit ways and a secure building site. Since 2010 the Council has worked to obtain a building study of the work that needs to be done to repair and preserve the building and to fund critical repairs. The Council is ready to move forward with repairs to the front and side entrance granite steps and to the portico roof. These repairs are essential given the deteriorating conditions and we are working with Boston Bay Architects to see that they are completed. A variance to the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board is necessary in order the keep the existing brass railings on the reconstructed steps and retain historical architectural significance. The Architect will add side handicapped accessible handrails on each side of the steps for Building Code accessibility. Enclosed you will find a copy of the Council's application to the MAAB needed to move forward with these repairs. If you should have any questions or concerns, we would be pleased to talk with you.
