ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
At a meeting held on November 13, 1985, the Zoning Board of Appeals
of the City of Northampton voted unanimously to get the Variance request
of Norman & Ingeborg Mene gat, -n11d n c*xRel for the purpose of
constructing a carport which would violate sideyard setback requirements.
Present and voting were: Chairman Robert C. Buscher, Peter Laband and
Shirley Puchalski.
The findings were as follows:
S. Puchalski found, after a site visitation, that the shape of the
parcel is unique; that a hardship is involved, as it appears to be
impossible to construct a driveway off of Linden Street and the
denseness of housing in this area allows no other alternative; that
although she questions the benefit of the proposed carport, recognizes
and respects the petitioners' need to protect their automobile;
and that the proposed carport will present no traffic hazard on
Walnut Street.

P. Laband, referring to Chapter 40A, MGL, found that the shape of
the lot is unique, containing a very long driveway with egress onto
Walnut Street, that affects this lot, but not thezoning district
in which it is located; that a hardship is involved in the upkeep
of deteriorating automobiles; that the structures on either side of
the driveway are far enough away so as not to be affected by the {
�'. construction of a carport; will not be detrimental to the neighborhood;
and that the construction of the carport will not derogate from the

intent of the Ordinance.
R. Buscher concurred.
f The following conditions shall apply:

1. That snow shall not be plowed from the driveway into
the street.
�j 2. That the applicants provide adequate drainage for roof
run-off so that it will not drain onto adjacent lots.
