INTRODUCTION
These plans explain how to build any of 6 x 6 to 12 x 12 building shown on the cover.
Included are common drawings for the platforms, roofs, windows, doors, and wall construction drawings for all
size buildings.
BRIEFLY SCAN THRU THIS ENTIRE SET OF PLANS SO AS TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THEM
BEFORE YOU BEGIN ANY WORK.
Rough cut lumber, or finish grade can be used for all construction. Plyscore can be substituted for flooring &
roofing.
PLATFORMS
- -- — The platform construction, which constitutes-the building floor is-the first_step. The platform drawings on pg. 2
show the instruction for various sizes. For much heavier loads, a cement slab, dirt floor,or heavier framing should be
used. It is important to apply a wood preservative during the construction of the platform because the underside will be
inaccessible after the building is erected. The platform should be lag screwed for stability. The finished platform will
serve as an excellent work area for the construction of the walls.
WALLS
Using the appropriate drawing, lay out and nail together the framework for each of the four walls. The siding can
be put on now or after the walls are standing. Offset the siding 3/4 of an inch below the edge of the frame so that it
will hang over the flooring material on the platform. On the front and the rear walls it overhangs the frame by 3-5/8".
On the door the siding is cut flush with the framework. WHEN CUTTING OUT THE SIDING FOR DOORWAYS BE
CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE MATERIAL BEING REMOVED BECAUSE THAT MATERIAL MAKES THE
DOORS.
Stand the four walls in place and nail them together at the corners. Square up the entire structure with temporary
braces prior to the roof construction.
ROOFS
The roofs are constructed as shown in the drawing on pg. 4. To start, the ridge board is held in place with a
temporary support at each end. The roof rafter ties are cut to size then nailed in place. With the faming complete, the
gables can be sided and the roof covered as shown. Trim the roof sheathing so that it overhangs 4".Asphalt or fiber-
glass shingles are recommended.
NOTE: The only difference in building a gable as apposed to a salt box is that the ridge board is centered in the build-
ing and not carried forward.
WINDOWS AND DOORS
These buildings use plain window sash and the doors you construct yourself. That results in relatively low cost.
The cutaway view on pg. 3 show the framework around the doors and windows.Sliding bolts mounted on the sash and
doors mate with holes drilled into the adjacent framework to hold the doors and windows closed. The upper and lower
portions of the doors are connected with the same arrangement.
Place the doors and windows into their respective openings and shim them into the correct closed position. Then
mount or mark the position of the hinges. In order for the doors and windows to open properly, the axis of the pins
must fall on a straight line.
