RECEIVED A CALL FOR A STRUCTURE FIRE AT THIS ADDRESS , ENGINE ;
5 REPORTED SMOKE SHOWING ON ARRIVAL. E5 ALSO REPORTED THAT A
PERSON WHO WAS SUPPOSEDLY AT THIS ADDRESS WAS NOT ACCOUNTED
FOR. E5 CREW BROUGHT IN A PRECONNECTED ATTACK LINE TO START
EXTINGUISHMENT AND SEARCH AND RESCUE EFFORT. ENGINE 4 LAYED
2 3"SUPPLY LINES TO ENGINE 5. MEMBERS FROM E4, E1, L2 DONNED
S.C.B.A. AND ALSO PULLED A PRECONNECTED ATTACK LINE FROM E5
FOR EXTINGUISHMENT AND SEARCHED THE HOUSE FOR THE MISSING
PERSON. THE MISSING PERSON WAS NOT HOME AT THE TIME OF THE
FIRE, BUT A CAT AND 3 PARAKEETS WERE REMOVED SAFELY FROM THE
STRUCTURE. THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED IN THE KITCHEN AREA WITH
EXTENSIVE FIRE DAMAGE TO THIS AREA. THE REST OF THE HOUSE
RECEIVED HEAVY SMOKE, HEAT AND WATER DAMAGE. PULLED CEILING
AND PORTIONS OF THE WALLS IN THE FIRE AREAS FROM FIRE
EXTENSION AND EXTINGUISHED. CALLED CHIEF JONES TO THE SCENE
TO HELP WITH THE INVESTIGATION OF THE CAUSE. CALLED MASS .
ELECTRIC CO. TO CUT POWER TO THE HOUSE. THE PERSON FROM THE
ELECTRIC COMPANY STATED TO ME THAT HE WAS THERE AT 1315
HOURS TO RESTORE ELECTRICAL SERVICE DUE TO THE SERVICE WAS
SHUT-OFF FOR NON- PAYMENT OF THE BILL DUE THE ELECTRIC ;
COMPANY. HE ALSO STATED THAT WHEN HE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AT
1.315 HOURS THAT HE KNOCKED ON THE DOOR TO TELL THE OWNER
THAT HE WAS THERE TO RESTORE POWER AND THAT NO ONE WAS HOME
OR DID NOT ANSWER THE DOOR AND HE RESTORED POWER TO THE
HOUSE WHICH IS THE PROTOCOL FOR MASS.ELECTRIC COMPANY. THE
' OWNER ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR THE POWER
COMPANY SINCE SATURDAY JULY 8, 1995 TO RESTORE THE POWER AND
SHE HAD CALLED THEM EARLIER TODAY TO SEE WHEN THE POWER WAS
GOING TO BE RESTORED AND SHE WAS INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE
' STORM ON JULY 8 , 1995 ALL THEIR TRUCKS WERE BUSY AND THE
POWER WOULD RESTORED TODAY JULY 9, 1995. WHILE WE WERE ON THE
SCENE DURING SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS CAPT. CORBETT
FOUND WHAT APPEARED TO BE MARIJUANA BEING CULTIVATED IN A
PARTITIONED AREA OF THE CELLER. N.P.D.OFFICERS ON SCENE AT
TIME OF THE FIRE WERE INFORMED AND THEY CALLED IN THEIR
DETECTIVE BUREAU. A OCCUPANT OF THE HOUSE WAS QUESTIONED AND
LATER TAKEN TO NORTHAMPTON POLICE DEPT. FOR FURTHUR
' UESTIONING. CAUSE OF FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION, NOT
CONSIDERED SUSPICIOUS AT THIS TIME. CHIEF JONES AND DEPUTY
' CHIEF MICHAEL DRISCOLL WILL CONTINUE INVESTIGATION IN THE
MORNING (JULY 10 , 1995) . THE FIRE CAUSED APPROXIMATELY '
' $125, 000 DAMAGE TO STRUCTURE AND CONTENTS . INSURANCE AGENT

NO REPORTED INJURIES TO FIREFIGHTING PERSONNEL AT THIS
WRITING. '
THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE, AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE OWNER, WAS
PLASTIC FOOD CONTAINERS AND A PIECE OF CLOTH LEFT ON THE ;
KITCHEN STOVE. THE POWER HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED AND
COMBUSTIBLES LEFT ON THE LEFT REAR BURNER OF THE KITCHEN
STOVE IGNITED WHEN THE POWER WAS RESTORED TO THE BUILDING.
