Building Commissioner

Dear Mr. Patillo,
Over the pa st few weeks I have been impressed by the work you have
undertaken to call attention to the expansion of the busimess that
Valle y Aggregates operates at the end of Turkey Hill Road. I own
a home that is one house away from the end of the road and am
worried about the quarry work. I have been at # 218 Turkey Hill
Road for eighteen years .
As you know, about ten years ago Valley Aggregates was denied a
permit to build a cement batching plant and was told to stop crush-
ing rock at their Turkey Hill Road site. Since then we had not seen
much a ctivity to complain about until this summer when quarry
noise and large truck traffic increased dramatically. I have found
it difficult on our narrow street, to pass these trucks as they
travel up a nd down the road. I never let our second grade (7 yr old)
daughter on the street now. We have, in fa ct, considered moving
away off Turkey Hill Rd, a ltogether because this quarry work has
escalate d so intensely. The constant daytime grinding noise and
the proposed continuation of steady blasting a re of rea 1 concern.
I worry about the safety of our well and the future of our water
supply.
The road is too narrow to accomodate eighteen wheelers. What
wa s once a small gravel bank is no longer a small operation and has
no pla ce in a residential neighborhood. The use of this land as a
quarry is a threat to the people who live on our street. Turkey
Hill Road has changed substantially over these last ten years and
we feel it's time for the City of Northampton to stop Valley
Aggrega tes' operation.
If there is anything that my husband, Phil Lawrence, and I can do to
help you to this end please let us know, and thank you for the effort
you have made so far.
Sincerely, J
