Environmentally inspired design City View Condominiums—Hockanum Road, Northampton, MA Site Report#1 -11/22/05 Framing of the first building is complete, with exterior sheathing in place. Structural elements have been installed consistent with the plans. Firestopping is in place on stair stringers. Firestopping has been installed half way up first floor walls,but there are gaps(at spaces between double studs). If firestopping is required in this location,the gaps will need to be solidly filled. Architect believes they are not required, but will confirm code interpretation with Building Commissioner and inform Owner of determination. Fire separation walls between units: Installation of fire rated gypsum board was discussed. It shall be contiwaous on both 'sides of wail, and shall be carried to underside of roof sheathing. Spaces have been provided at floor junctures to allow 2 layers of 5/8" gypsum board to be installed as required. Fire separation at beam pockets in basements: The pressure treated wood sills have some exposure in the beam pockets. These areas will need to be sealed,pith fire rated caulk. My reading of the code is that there is not a requirement to install firestopping within the wall cavities;which are not continuous between floors: I would like to confirm this interpretation before the walls are enclosed. (At the moment, firestopping has been installed in the party walls on the first floor,but there are gaps that would need to be filled if the firestoppping is required.) Thank you.
