RE. Hockanum Road Townhouse Project,Addendum
Huntley Project No.03-006
Dear Ms. Misch:
Huntley Associates, P.C. (HAPC) is pleased to submit the following additional information for the
proposed Hockanum Road Townhouse Project in Northampton. Please recall that our client, Mr.
William Gruber proposes to construct two townhouse buildings with a total of 14 units on Hockanum
Road.
In response to a request from the Department of Public Work (DPW), a test pit was excavated in the
area of the proposed stormwater detention.pond. On November 20. 2003, JC Construction excavated
the test pit to a depth of approximately 80-inches. HAPC observed the excavation and visually
inspected the soil for evidence of soil mottling (an indicator of high or perched ground water), see
attached test pit log.
Based on our visual inspection of the test pit soil cross-section, no soil mottling, seepage, or standing
water was observed. Soil stratigraphy consists of 3 to 4 feet of fill, and the remaining soil appeared to
consist of silt and silt-sized material. I ,ddition, during excavation a vitrified clay nine LVCP) was
encountered and damaged. The 8-inch diameter drainage pipe (as determined from fluid and lack of
offensive odor) was immediately repaired utilizing rubber couplings, stainless steel screw-tight
fasteners, and a section of 8-inch diameter PVC pipe. The VCP was located approximately 70-inches
below ground level(see attached sheet).
If the Board has any questions or comments regarding this matter, please contact me at our office.
Sincerely,
HUNTLEY ASSOCIATES,P.C.
