Dear Peg,
The house at 25 Hancock Street (map 23C, plot 230), a three story wood framed
structure being used as a rooming house, was destroyed by fire early this morning.
Anthony Patillo, the Building Commissioner for the City of Northampton, has determined
that the remaining structure poses an immediate threat to public health and safety. In
accordance with the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR chapter 1, section
121), he has ordered the remaining portion of the structure demolished. In accordance
with the Demolition Review Ordinance, section 28-7, 1 am notifying the commission that
the Building Department will issue an emergency Building Permit for demolition today.
